Local Outreach

Loving our community through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We Love Lorton

We strive to love our community by providing both material and spiritual support. God calls all of us as followers of Christ to love our neighbors, to make disciples by sharing the gospel message, and to engage in good works (Matthew 22:39; 28:18-20; Galatians 6:10; Ephesians 2:10; Titus 2:14; 3:1, 8). We try to strategically do to these through our local outreach efforts and through our work with local partnerships.

Opportunities

Below are several strategic ways we pursue local outreach in the Lorton community.

Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC)

We partner with Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) a local nonprofit organization that serves our community. LCAC provides low income individuals and families in our community with access to food, clothing, emergency financial aid, and outreach programs. LCAC offers volunteer opportunities in the food pantry, office help, and in many of its other programs. If you would like to volunteer at LCAC or donate food to the food pantry, click the button below.

We also participate as a church in their annual Christmas holiday program, pantry food drives, and other events. We also put on two annual children’s vacation Bible school camps in Lorton park each year in April and August. If you would like to volunteer for one of our children’s vacation bible school camps in the park, stay tuned to the church announcements.

Assist Pregnancy Center (Assist)

We partner with Assist, a Christ-centered ministry working to encourage, educate, and empower women and men to make life-giving decisions for themselves and their unborn children. Since 1990, God has worked through Assist to save over 1,000 babies.

Through the provision of no-cost medical services, counseling, and practical assistance, Assist comes alongside mothers and fathers to affirm life and share the hope found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Each year we participate in the Baby Bottle Drive and the Assist Annual Dinner event to help raise funds for this critical ministry. Additionally, Assist offers several volunteer opportunities, including training, for those interested in supporting this ministry.

Military Ministry

God has placed us near Fort Belvoir and not too far from the Marine Corps Base Quantico, so we have the privilege of serving and doing life with brothers and sisters in Christ who serve in the military. In conjunction with our Military Ministry, we hold outreach events several times a year on Fort Belvoir and at the church to bring Christian fellowship and the gospel to our military families.

Prison Ministry

On the first Sunday of each month, we provide a Sunday morning service at the Fairfax County Jail in partnership with Good News Global, a nonprofit prison ministry. Through this ministry the gospel is proclaimed to the incarcerated and the love of Christ incarnated as we minister to these men.

Prayer & Evangelism Walks

Prayer walks are from April to October, generally on the 3rd Saturday of the month, from 1pm - 3pm. We meet at the church at 12:45 and head out from there to pray for those God places in our path and to share the gospel. You do not need to sign up, just show up if you are interested in participating.

Assist Living Ministry

We serve our local senior community at two assisted living centers in the area. We provide a bi-weekly Bible study for residents at the Fairfax at Belvoir Woods Senior living and Assist care facility. We also provide visitations at the Harmony Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility as needed.

Fall Festival

Each year on the third Saturday in October we invite the community to our Annual Fall Festival for a day of family fun and food. It's an opportunity to get to know our neighbors and to love and serve them. It takes approximately 85 volunteers to staff the Fall Festival. If you are interested in volunteering, each year we send out a call for volunteers starting in August.
